“Glory and Decadence”: an augmented reality exhibition at Château d’Artigny
During the 2024 European Heritage Days, the BavAR[t] app launched a unique immersive experience in collaboration with the Tours Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Montbazon, September 21, 2024 — BavAR[t] launches “Glory and Decadence,” a groundbreaking augmented reality exhibition set in the heart of the majestic Château d’Artigny.
This innovative project was selected as a winner of the “Tourism and Innovation” call for projects in Touraine. It offers visitors an immersive journey into the dazzling world of the Roaring Twenties and invites them to discover the fascinating story of François Coty — visionary perfumer and the man behind the creation of this extraordinary château.

A deep dive into the history of Château d’Artigny
Built between 1912 and 1929 by François Coty, the Château d’Artigny is a true architectural masterpiece, designed in the style of the 18th century.
Inspired by the Château de Champlâtreux, Coty aspired to rival the great builders of the Grand Siècle, endowing his residence with unmatched refinement. Yet, this magnificent creation served its maker for only a short time — Coty passed away in 1934, leaving behind a legend of glory and decadence.
The Rotunda: the jewel of the château
The “Glory and Decadence” experience places a special spotlight on the Rotunda on the first floor — a lavish reception hall adorned with a trompe-l’œil fresco by Charles Hoffbauer.
This fresco, portraying a masquerade ball where Coty’s friends and relatives are immortalized, serves as the centerpiece of the exhibition. Through augmented reality, visitors are invited to rediscover these characters brought to life in a Belle Époque/Gatsby-style staging, evoking the splendor and excess of the grand soirées once hosted by Coty.
An immersive and innovative experience
In collaboration with the Tours Chamber of Commerce and as part of the incubator The Place by CCI 37, BavAR[t] has designed an immersive experience that transports visitors into the atmosphere of the 1920s.
3D animations, reminiscent of paper theaters, bring the Rotunda’s fresco back to life with a period-inspired artistic style. This creative approach seeks to capture the essence of the lavish celebrations that once marked the château’s rich history.
This project was supported through the “Tourism and Innovation” initiative in Touraine
Launched during the European Heritage Days, this project was made possible thanks to the “Tourism and Innovation” call for projects in Touraine.
