A Celtic Treasure Hunt in Augmented Reality in Galway
For the 2025 Brittany Festival, we embarked our users on an immersive quest in Galway, Ireland, in collaboration with BavAR[t]. This project transformed the city’s streets into a playground where Breton “korrigans” (mythical creatures) mingle with the legendary Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen of Connacht. This fun and interactive experience allowed participants to travel from Lorient to Galway while discovering the stories and legends of both regions.
This treasure hunt is both a cultural and educational game. Clues were hidden in iconic locations around Galway, inviting participants to explore the history of pirates and korrigans, as well as the strong cultural link between Brittany and Ireland. It’s a fun way to learn while having a great time.
Thanks to BavartApp, art and heritage come to life in public spaces. The goal of this digital quest is to build bridges between Breton and Irish cultures, reminding people that legends and stories are universal.
The final objective was to find a boat to return to Brittany by locating 10 clues scattered throughout the city. The adventure was extended until May 25, for the participants’ enjoyment.
We invite people to download the application and let themselves be guided by the magic of augmented reality.
