Math, Art, and Heritage: A Unique Augmented Reality Project at the High School in Bourges 🎨📐
✨ As part of the 2025 Mathematics Week, students from Lycée Marguerite de Navarre — in Bourges, future European Capital of Culture 2028 — took on a unique challenge: combining science and art. 🎨➕📐
Their mission?
To create digital artworks inspired by mathematical concepts and organize a playful outdoor exhibition using BavAR[t].
📍 An immersive exhibition turned into a treasure hunt
Accessible during the high school’s Open House, this experience transformed the campus into an interactive cultural trail, blending student creations with artworks from the school’s “1% artistique” heritage collection.
The result: a real augmented reality treasure hunt where mathematics, creativity, and heritage meet. 📱✨
📚 The project unfolded in several stages:
1️⃣ Choosing a mathematical concept
Sequences, probabilities, geometry, algorithms… each student selected a mathematical theme to explore.
2️⃣ Creating a digital artwork
Students designed an artistic digital creation linked to their chosen concept, translating abstract mathematics into visual storytelling. 🎨
3️⃣ Integration into BavartApp
Their works were added to BavAR[t] alongside the high school’s cultural heritage collection.
4️⃣ Designing an augmented reality trail
The students created an immersive route where visitors could discover the artworks directly on-site through geolocation and augmented reality. 🌍
🎲 Learning through experimentation
This original project combines mathematics, art, and digital technology in a practical and engaging way.
It allowed students to develop skills in programming, creative thinking, and cultural mediation while showcasing the high school’s heritage through an innovative lens.
💡 It perfectly reflects our philosophy: making digital technology a tool for cultural and educational mediation that is accessible to everyone.
